AI in this work

A clear accounting of where AI helped — and where it didn't.

The photographs

Shot, edited, not generated

The photographs in this collection were taken by Jon Cass on a Sony A6700 and edited in Adobe Lightroom. No generative AI was used at any stage of the photographic process. No subjects, backgrounds, textures, or compositional elements were created, added, removed, or altered by AI. Every image is a photograph of a real subject, captured in the field.

The one AI tool used in post-processing is Photoshop's AI Denoise, applied to shots taken at high ISO — where digital noise becomes visible and competes with the fine detail that macro photography depends on. The example below shows exactly what it does.

Site development

How this site was built

ExhibitBee was built with assistance from Claude, an AI assistant developed by Anthropic. Claude did all of the heavy lifting on the site's HTML structure, CSS design system, JavaScript (the navigation, lightbox, scroll animations, and the comparison slider on this page), and the overall layout architecture across all gallery pages.

The collaboration extended beyond code — Claude was also a sounding board for site strategy and creative decisions, including the occasional push back when an idea didn't hold up. All photographs and all photographic decisions are Jon's.
